I come from a family of artists -- on my mother’s side, and except for her father, all women. I won my first art contest in the second grade, and so it began for me. I was encouraged, through high school, until my father refused to pay for art school. “Go to secretarial college, so you can make a living,” he said. I politely declined, and later, with the help of my new husband, spent a few years with kindred souls at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, DC.

After thirty-four years in a career as a graphic artist, I find my future full of the promise of learning. I want to try it all, learn it all, push my boundaries and see if I can still do this. I want to learn oil painting, sculpture, figure drawing, pastel painting -- all that is available to me.

So I share my favorite quote from The Once and Future King, by T. H. White:

“There is only one thing for it then — to learn. Learn why the world wags and what wags it. That is the only thing which the mind can never exhaust, never alienate, never be tortured by, never fear or distrust, and never dream of regretting. Learning is the only thing for you!”
